Grills were hot as part of a couple of brand-new cooking contests this past weekend.
On Saturday, Waters True Value held its inaugural Backyard BBQ Battle at the store. Contestants brought in everything from pork to chicken to steak to duck — and in the end, Scott Burenheide’s duck burgers with bacon-wrapped sriracha onion rings was the top entry. Burenheide says he had a bit of panic going into the event after his contest grill fell apart, but he also went with a winning recipe.
Waters manager Mark Shook says a good time was had by all.
It was a day of worship and friendly competition at Grace United Methodist Church yesterday (SUN) as the church held its first Hamburger Grill-Off. Lyle Klamm won for his burger and for his homemade guacamole.
Pastor Brenda Ulrich wanted to do something different than the traditional cookoff.
Los Raices Hispanic Dancers also entertained after the church’s worship service, and there were also kids games and a potluck lunch as part of the activities. Photos from both contests are online at KVOE.com.
