Local foster children received a day of fun and joy thanks to members of West Side Baptist Church this weekend.
The second annual Fun Day for Foster Kids was held Saturday afternoon. Event organizer Craig Barnwell explains where his inspiration for the event came from.
Barnwell adds this year’s event saw several changes to its format including combining it into one session rather than two, and included children not only in the foster care system but who also live with single parents and family members.
Barnwell added the reason for the inclusion of single parents is the lack of events which seeks to reach out to non-traditional households, such as Fun Day for Foster Kids.
On average there are reportedly over 7,000 children in the foster care system just in Kansas. Barnwell explains being in the system can cause children to often feel unwanted or alone. He hopes the event provides a ray of hope to any and all children who attend.
Activities for the day included group activities, inflatables, train rides, face painting and food donated by local sponsors.
