Last week, Osage County deputies began investigating strings of vehicle burglaries in several communities, Now, deputies are officially asking for the public’s help in finding those responsible.
The Sheriff’s Office says there have now been more than two dozen such burglaries total in Carbondale, Overbrook and Scranton. Numerous items have been stolen, including firearms — a major concern for law enforcement recently because the suspect who killed Sedgwick County deputy Robert Kunze III on Sunday stole a firearm earlier in the day.
Deputies say the thieves started by entering unlocked vehicles, but now they have been breaking windows to gain access to what’s inside.
Suspect descriptions have not been released. If you have information, call the Osage County Sheriff’s Office at 785-828-3121 or Osage County Crimestoppers at 877-OS-CRIME. Deputies say Osage County residents should also remove all valuables from their vehicles and to report any suspicious people, whether they are walking or driving in the area.
Residents with video cameras are encouraged to reach out to law enforcement so deputies can review the footage. If your vehicle was broken into, even if nothing was stolen, call law enforcement.
