Separate hearings of note are taking place Monday in Lyon County District Court.
At 1:30 pm, there will be a plea hearing for Kimberly Schneider, one of two former employees at the Center for Early Childhood Education charged this year with abuse, neglect and/or endangerment after alleged incidents earlier this decade. Schneider was charged in May with five counts of child endangerment, while former director Keely Persinger was charged with failing to report suspected abuse or neglect after local and state investigations alleged lack of supervision, improper exposure to heat during a summer activity, lack of documentation for staff credentials and lack of records for specific drills in several incidents from 2014 to 2016. Persinger has already entered a diversion agreement in her case.
At 3:30 pm, Hayward McKoy, Jr., has a preliminary hearing on charges of aggravated battery and interference with law enforcement. McKoy is accused of stabbing another Emporia man with a knife at IHOP on Aug. 27. He also allegedly fled the scene before he was arrested.
