Things turned soggy across the KVOE listening area Wednesday.
Here at the KVOE studios, we received 1.25 inches of rain, meaning we are up to 1.55 inches of rain this week. Our Wednesday total was one of several healthy rain amounts across the area:
*9th and Burns: 2.25 inches
*Antler Ridge: 2.20 inches
*West 15th: 2.25 inches
*Emporia Municipal Airport: 1.42 inches
*Allen: 0.80 inches
*Americus: 3.25 inches
*Between Olpe and Hartford: 2.75 inches
*Bushong: 1.15 inches
*Lake Kahola: 3 inches
*Saffordville: 3.3 inches
*Strong City: 2 inches
Rivers are elevated but well within their banks. The rain also pushed Council Grove Reservoir up two feet just from Wednesday’s activity.
The rain in Chase County also led to water over Kansas Highway 177 in spots between Bazaar and Matfield Green as well as reports of water over county gravel roads. The water has since receded.
Showers are possible for most of the day, and officially there is a chance of a thunderstorm Thursday night as the Emporia State football team has its home opener against Pittsburg State at 7 pm. TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers isn’t expecting any thunderstorm activity for us.
Rain chances continue through Saturday. Meyers says potential rain amounts are iffy because forecast models aren’t handling the impact of moisture that once was Hurricane Gordon.
