For the third year in a row, Emporia businesses will be showing their spirit for the Emporia State football team as they host their home opener Thursday.
The Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce is again coordinating Stinger Shutdown leading up to the opener against Pittsburg State. Chamber President and CEO Jeanine McKenna says many businesses are shutting down and coming out to the tailgate.
While there are no official rules to Stinger Shutdown, McKenna says they are encouraging businesses that have to stay open during the game to show their spirit in other ways, including playing the game coverage on Mix 104.9 FM, KVOE.com or the Mix 104.9 mobile app with coverage starting at 6 pm.
Businesses are also encouraged to make fan videos and decorate their businesses to show support for all Hornet activities. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Welch Stadium.
