Interstate 35 will be the camping ground of local patriots honoring the memories of American heroes on the 17th anniversary of the darkest day in American history.
The 16th annual Random acts of Patriotism event will be taking place Tuesday, September 11th. The annual salute to patriots involves area residents camping out on the overpass at exit 160 near Melvern on Interstate 135.
Spokesperson Deb Fuller calls it a celebratory yet somber event.
From sunlight to sundown residents camp out on the overpass and adorn it with all manner of patriotic decorations. Fuller says it is an outstanding visual for passersby.
Fuller adds each year they are approached by individuals who are extremely touched by the tribute.
The event will take place rain or shine. Anyone and everyone is welcome to be a part of the event, those wishing to participate should bring chairs, sunscreen, water and snacks and may come and go at their own discretion.
