Sacred Heart School has launched into the new academic year with a new leader at the helm.
Darby O’Neill, a Kansas City native, actually comes to Emporia from Los Angeles, where he led a Catholic school for nine years. He says comments about a rather impersonal big-city lifestyle rang true to him, which is why he started looking for a situation like the one at Sacred Heart.
O’Neill says the community and the “buy-in” at Sacred Heart was what drew him to the school.
O’Neill says he’s humbled to see the parent involvement since coming on board. He says he wants to make sure Sacred Heart has the best instructional practices in place for its students.
Sacred Heart has kindergarten through fifth grade, and O’Neill says enrollment has held steady around 70 students the past several years. O’Neill says he’d like to see the school continue its good relationships with the community and also with Emporia Public Schools, where most students go after they leave Sacred Heart.
