School officials at USD 252 Southern Lyon County are celebrating progress on its $14 million renovation project.
Separate ribbon cuttings were held Friday at Neosho Rapids Elementary and Hartford Junior and Senior High. Neosho Rapids Elementary Principal Douglas Hes says the renovation there is creating a more connected campus.
Hes says kids were excited the first day.
In Hartford, there is a new weight room and kitchen linked to the commons area. USD 252 Southern Lyon County Superintendent Mike Argabright says students have been much more excited at lunchtime where they now have much more space to eat and more options.
As for the weight room, Argabright says it’s something long overdue for students.
Following the two ribbon cuttings, school officials went to Olpe Friday afternoon for a groundbreaking. USD 252 Board President Kevin Flott says the project wouldn’t have been possible without the support of its patrons.
The Olpe project is slightly behind schedule due to the district having to rebid after a busy summer construction season. It’s anticipated to take about 12 to 14 months and include a new storm shelter and renovated kitchen and classroom space. Meanwhile, the Neosho Rapids and Hartford projects should be wrapping up in a matter of weeks.
