Isolated heavy rainfall came to the KVOE listening area early Thursday.
Anywhere from a trace to nearly 3 inches of rainfall were part of thunderstorm activity from around 3 am to 8 am. Current totals:
*KVOE studios: 0.10 inches
*Emporia Municipal Airport: 0.63 inches
*Between Olpe and Hartford: 1.8 inches
*Council Grove Marina: 1.5 inches
*Lake Kahola: 1 inch
*7 miles south of Lebo: 2.5 inches
*Madison: 0.60 inches
*Neosho Rapids: 0.30 inches
*New Strawn: 2.92 inches
Additional storms are possible Thursday and through the upcoming Labor Day weekend.
The rain comes as the US Drought Monitor continues tracking moderate to extreme drought across the area. The extreme drought area has shrunk for Chase and Morris counties, although extreme drought remains in place for north Lyon, east Morris and south Wabaunsee counties.
3-8 am Thursday: Severe thunderstorm, flood warnings posted near Emporia
For the second time in three days, strong to severe storms are bearing down on parts of the KVOE listening area.
Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued earlier for parts of Chase and Greenwood counties. No severe weather has been reported from those storms.
Showers and storms are possible through early afternoon, with several potential rounds of storms in the forecast through early next week.
