With a move-in date now in sight, Emporia Main Street officials on Wednesday gave donors a behind-the-scenes look into its future headquarters at 727 Commercial Street.
Main Street Director Casey Woods tells KVOE News they’re not quite finished with the overall project yet, but says they do have a targeted move-in date.
The new space will give Main Street more flexibility in space to handle its business which includes helping with about 40 yearly projects around town. In addition to that, Emporia Main Street assists with about $1.4 million in loans for entrepreneurs and helps with redevelopment projects totaling in the millions of dollars in Emporia. Woods says ultimately it’s the business community that will reap the major benefits of this new space with an incubator space for start-up businesses and a fab lab.
Woods says a project like this hasn’t been done in Emporia before and that’s why they wanted to show the progress to those investing their money in Emporia’s future.
The headquarters will be at the center of many of Emporia’s downtown events including the Dirty Kanza start and finish line.
