Emporia Police have arrested one man after he allegedly barricaded himself in a garage near an Emporia school and then ran from police.
Sgt. Lisa Sage says officers and Lyon County deputies went to 118 Sylvan shortly after 9 am to serve a warrant. One person inside, later identified as 48-year-old Abel Oritz of Emporia, allegedly barricaded himself in a detached garage.
Ortiz later left the garage and fled on foot but was captured a short time later.
As the case developed, Sacred Heart School was notified because of how close the incident was to the school.
Ortiz has been booked into the Lyon County Jail on suspicion of felony flee and elude, battery on a law enforcement officer, possession of methamphetamines and other drug counts. Formal charges are pending through the Lyon County Attorney’s Office.
