The Emporia Public Library has some exciting new materials coming available for patrons to check out.
On a recent Talk of Emporia, Director Robin Newell highlighted one of their wearable word counting devices, called a Starling. It’s been billed as the world’s first wearable education device for children.
The library has three of the Starlings that have been purchased by the Friends of the Emporia Public Library and three more are coming available in September courtesy the Kansas Masonic Literacy Center. Newell says the more parents are talking to their children, especially when they’re younger, the more vocabulary is retained.
The Starlings are available for check out to those who have had an Emporia Public Library card for three months and are currently in good standing.
