TOPEKA — A challenge by Democrats hoping to keep Greg Orman off the ballot for the gubernatorial race has failed.
The State Objections Board — a three-person panel including Lt. Governor Tracey Mann, Attorney General Derek Schmidt and Secretary of State Kris Kobach — heard the complaint from attorney Will Lawrence, who wanted the board to cut out some 6,000 signatures on Orman’s petition to be on the ballot. Less than 325 were invalidated.
This doesn’t finalize the race for governor in November. Orman could still face at least one more legal challenge to his candidacy.
Besides Orman, Kobach and Democrat Laura Kelly, independent Rick Kloos and Libertarian Jeff Caldwell are also on the ballot for governor.
