The latest effort to assist Emporia Public School Students is seeing great success.
Last month KVOE reported on a new missions effort from Grace United Methodist Church’s youth group called Kicks 4 Kids. The purpose of the effort is to collect both funds and shoes for less fortunate students across the district. The youth group started the fundraiser with an initial goal of raising $5,000 which would then be matched by the Church’s Missions Committee.
Grace United Methodist Pastor Brenda Ulrich says they have exceeded expectations.
Along with the funds, Kicks 4 Kids has already collected over 300 pairs of shoes, 130 of which are new. Ulrich says she is astounded by the outpouring of love shown by the Emporia community.
After the funds and shoe donations are complete Grace United Methodist will coordinate with USD 253 counselors to ascertain the needs of each school. Once the church receives the information from counselors they will deliver the specified amount of shoes. The names and needs of students will be kept confidential.
Donations for Kicks 4 Kids may be delivered to Grace United Methodist Church at 2 Neosho St. Emporia, KS or by contacting Pastor Brenda Ulrich at 620-342-2240.
