The Emporia Recreation Commission board of directors took no action Monday evening but they did do a lot of listening.
Rec Commission Director Tom McEvoy previewed an architect meeting planned for next week which will involve the steering committee. McEvoy explains what they’ll be presented with.
The areas of the Lee Beran Recreation Center being looked at for possible expansion include the indoor aquatics center, the gymnasiums, a renovated fitness area, administrative office and commons area including a single point entry into the rec center. The 90-minute meeting is planned for 1:30 p.m. Aug. 27 at the rec center.
McEvoy also updated the board on damage estimates from the Aug. 6 microburst which impacted the DeBauge Family Soccer Complex.
The fencing repair proposal has been approved and will be replaced in the near future.
In other business, Aquatics Supervisor Jennifer Wegener noted preliminary attendance figures for the Jones Aquatic Center at approximately 21,800, slightly above average compared to most years, according to Wegener, who said concession sales were also $2,000 higher than the year before. Higher attendance was noted in June and much lower numbers in August.
