The David Traylor Zoo helped kids get excited for the new school year with a special event Monday.
Close to 200 people including parents and their children visited the Mobilizing Literacy at the Zoo event hosted by USD 253 Emporia Public Schools. The event gives families the opportunity to enjoy a unique literacy event that also explores conservation education through the zoo. Mobilizing Literacy family liaison Jodi Case.
Zoo Education Coordinator Michelle Sagers says this event is a great way for the two entities to work together.
The one-hour event featured stations for kids to listen to music, move around, read books and learn more about the animals. Lunch was provided by the Kansas Masonic Literacy Center and included crispitos cooked by USD 253 food service along with Hostess cakes.
