The rainfall caused several travel issues areawide, with three separate injury crash reports on the Kansas Turnpike between the Emporia exit and Matfield Green service area. However, nobody was transported to a hospital afterward.
Rain also put a damper on several community events, canceling the Flint Hills Beef Fest golf tournament as well as the Jones Aquatic Center’s Final Fiesta and Pooch Plunge.
TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers says more rain chances are coming this week.
Sunday’s rain totals mean most of the KVOE listening area has received at least five inches of rain since Aug. 13. Sunday was a day of prolonged rainfall across much of the Flint Hills.
Area residents enjoyed a soaking rainfall from early morning until close to sunset. The KVOE studios received 1.6 inches of rain. Other totals:
