Lyon County commissioners will continue their review of two controversial infrastructure matters when they have their weekly action meeting Thursday morning.
Commissioners have a resolution set to discuss on parts of Road A. The county road along or near the Morris County line between Roads 310 and 330 has seen an ongoing dispute among nearby landowners about access, law enforcement and other concerns, and Lyon and Morris counties have had both separate and joint discussions on how to proceed. Lyon County commissioners started the process of vacating the road two months ago.
In addition, RES Americas will provide an update on its proposed wind energy development from near Reading towards Osage City. The update comes as Lyon County has already hired Kirkham Michael to handle professional services matters while Osage County is considering a similar step with the consultant. It also comes as core drilling has come to an end in several Lyon County locations and as so-called “barber poles” — tall, thin PVC pipes with diagonal red stripes — have been installed in several locations near Reading. Those poles are important because they signify potential tower access points if RES can finalize a power purchase agreement, essentially the final component left to hammer out before construction can begin.
On top of those discussion points, county commissioners will consider appointments to the Kansas Department for Wildlife, Parks and Tourism to serve on behalf of the Flint Hills Trail near US Highway 56 in northern Lyon County. The trail was designated as a state park earlier this year.
The action meeting begins at 8 am at the County Courthouse. The Road A discussion begins at 9 am, while the RES Americas update begins at 10 am.
