Preparations are underway ahead of the 32nd annual Flint Hills Beef Fest which begins Friday at the Lyon County Fairgrounds.
On KVOE’s Newsmaker segment this week, Beef Fest Board President Scott Jones encouraged participation in the many events going on. Among the highlights is the free hamburger feed Saturday, courtesy of the Beef Fest Committee and KVOE.
On Friday, a free breakfast will open things up at 7 a.m. with the Beef Producers Seminar at 8:15 a.m. The ranch feed is at 6 p.m. and ranch rodeo at 7 p.m.
Saturday’s schedule includes a ranch horse competition at 8 a.m. and a live stocker show at the sale barn at 9:30 a.m. The Ag Olympics takes place from 10 a.m. to noon and spokesman Thomas Leihsing says it’s a great opportunity for the three local FFA chapters to showcase what life is like for area farmers and ranchers.
The Beef Fest awards banquet begins at 5:30 p.m. with a steak dinner at 6:30 p.m. with live entertainment by John Wesley Austin, along with a dance and live music.
The Lyon County History Center also has an exhibit running both Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. titled “Home on the Prairie.
Sunday features the golf tournament beginning at 9 a.m.
