A Strong City woman accused of permitting her pit bull to get loose on three separate occasions made her first appearance Friday in Chase County District Court.
Shelby Carson waived the reading of rights, charges and possible penalties. The case was continued for arraignment at 10 a.m. Aug. 30. The state’s motion to endorse witnesses was filed on Aug. 9.
Carson was arrested following a June 4 incident where Chase County Sheriff Richard Dorneker shot and killed the dog after he alleged it became aggressive toward both he and another responding deputy. An arrest affidavit provided to KVOE News says Carson unlawfully permitted the animal to be at large without restraining it.
Carson also faces two similar charges from May 18 when the dog again allegedly aggressed two other Chase County deputies. Each charge is a Class B nonperson misdemeanor.
