Car seat safety was the primary focus of a safety check lane Saturday at Fire Station No. 2.
Safe Kids Emporia volunteers from the Emporia Police Department and Lyon County Sheriff’s Office spent time helping parents get seats properly installed, ensuring children are safer after leaving the check lane than they were before. Spokesperson Jeff Illk from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office says parents always leave reassured after speaking with the safety seat technicians.
Some parents who stopped by were able to take home brand new car seats provided by grant funding for SafeKids Emporia. Illk says these check lanes are done routinely to ensure every family is reached.
If you missed Saturday’s checkpoint, you can contact law enforcement anytime to schedule an appointment to have your child’s seat inspected.
