TOPEKA — Local lawmakers say they are pleased that monthly tax revenues have both stayed strong throughout the calendar year and are starting fiscal 2019 on a good note.
July tax receipts were just over $499 million, some 10 percent over July 2017 and about $11 million over estimates. Senate Vice President Jeff Longbine says the state economy is improving.
60th District Representative Mark Schreiber is also pleased with the growth and positive trends in the labor market.
Individual income tax receipts were almost $228 million, or $39 million ahead of last year and $8 million over projections. Sales taxes, meanwhile, totaled $206 million, $2.25 million over July ’17 and about $750,000 above expectations.
Recent forecasting adjustments should make bring projections closer to the actual numbers from here on out, giving lawmakers more confidence in their planning for future projects.
