Gas prices jumped four cents in Kansas this past week to $2.68, which tied for the fifth largest increase in America, according to AAA.
That price, while 51 cents higher than one year ago, is still the 11th lowest average price for a gallon of gas nationwide. AAA Kansas spokesperson Jennifer Haugh says volatility, as predicted, is keeping gas prices steady.
In Emporia, the average price for gas this week was at $2.64, which was three cents higher than a week ago and 55 cents higher than a year ago, a jump of 26 percent. From a national perspective, U.S. gasoline demand and supply both declined with the national gas price jumping two cents to $2.86. Haugh says there are some factors, including hurricane season that could still impact prices moving forward.
Haugh says records continue to be shattered also when it comes to travel.
This week’s state high gas price was $2.90 reported at Howard. Montezuma had the state low price at $2.43.
