The city of Emporia came together to honor the memory of one of their own and help save future lives.
In late June Emporia was rocked by the sudden death of Emporia High graduate Kenzie Payne. After her death, the family received an outpouring of support and love which translated into the Kenzie Payne Memorial Blood Drive Wednesday at the Memorial Union’s Skyline Room.
Organizer and family friend Kevin Sandoval says the community support has been the one solace for the Payne family in the midst of this tragedy.
Payne was a medical student at the University of Kansas at the time of her passing. Sandoval explains the drive is not only honoring her memory but also what he refers to as her mission in life.
The drive ran from 10:45 to 4:15, and there was no shortage of individuals stepping up to donate. Sandoval says the overwhelming support has inspired him to try and make the drive an annual event.
