Coming off a 6-5 season the Emporia State football team is tied for 5th in the MIAA Coaches Preseason poll and 5th in the Media poll.
Northwest Missouri state is the top pick in both polls. They are followed by Fort Hays State, Central Missouri and Pittsburg State in the top 4 in both polls.
Emporia State Coach Garin Higgins says there are areas that need to improve.
Emporia State does return 14 starters and 19 seniors.
Quarterback Braxton Marstall is one of the starters and seniors returning, He says he is taking a no regrets attitude.
Marstall says they cannot look to far ahead.
Senior runningback Landon Nault says going 6-5 last season has been a motivator.
Nault said an experienced team is a big advantage.
Junior linebacker Gary Woods says they will be improved defensively.
There were some tweaks made on defense in the spring, Woods likes the changes.
The First game of the season for Emporia State will be played August 30th at Northeastern State.
