EUREKA — Recovery from last month’s tornado in Eureka is about to take several steps forward.
As KVOE News told you last week, the Greenwood County Long-Term Recovery Committee is poised to have case managers hear cases by early next week. In addition, a town hall has now been set for 7 pm Aug. 9 as part of proceedings surrounding the CommunityLinc dinner at Eureka United Methodist Church that night.
Recently on KVOE’s Morning Show, committee chair Matt Osborn urged town residents to call the committee if they were in the damage path from the June 26 tornado.
Osborn also encouraged people to contribute financially to the recovery. The committee has made the Eureka Foundation its fiscal agent, and you can also donate through the Emporia Community Foundation’s Growing Greenwood Fund.
As the recovery process continues, the Recovery Committee is looking for several components to keep the momentum going forward. It needs a volunteer coordinator to catalog projects, create a list of volunteers wanting to help and organize a work day tentatively set for Aug. 18. It also needs a construction manager to compile information on projects and necessary materials.
Also, the committee has gained access to 10 storage sheds for residents who suffered property damage and insurance is not helping to offset costs. Crews will start assembling the sheds Aug. 17.
