The Emporia Senior American Legion baseball season came to and end Saturday with a semi-final loss at state. Post 5 was out scored by Salina 6-3.
Salina scored 2 runs in the first, a run in the 2nd and a run in the 4th to take a 4-0 lead. Emporia scored a run in the 5th, Eric Hertlein scored on a Jace Stewart single. Salina added 2 runs in the 5th to take a 6-1 lead. Post 5 tried to rally with 2 runs in the 6th. Jace Stewart drove in 2 runs with a single. Emporia Coach Anthony Markowitz said they lost to a good team.
The Post 5 Seniors finish their season with a 24-8 record.
In the other semi-final Nickerson scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th for a 5-4 win over Newton.
In the championship game Salina over came a 3-0 deficit to defeat Nickerson 5-3 for the State AAA Legion title.
