After three fires caused substantial damage in multiple locations Friday, Lyon County Emergency Management is reiterating the importance of fire safety.
Friday emergency crews had their hands full with three separate blazes, including one at 2i Feeders in Allen which caused severe damage to the property. Lyon County Emergency Manager Jarrod Fell says Friday’s incidents re-emphasized a reoccurring theme from the past several weeks.
Each of the three fires Friday were accidental incidents from intentional burning activities including outdoor cooking and burning trash. Fell says when these activities are taking place vigilance is all the more important.
Drought has been developing now for over a year, and the US Drought Monitor now has the majority of northwest Lyon County in exceptional drought — the worst on its scale. If you are planning to burn trash or do any outdoor cooking please be sure you have any and all materials with you to put out the flames and that you do not leave any fires unattended at any time.
In the case of any fires, residents are asked to immediately contact authorities or Lyon County Emergency Management at 620-341-3210.
