An Allen-area cattle business suffered major fire damage Friday.
Fire was reported at 2i Feeders, 884 Road 350, around 11 am. The original call was for a vehicle fire, but the situation quickly became more serious as hay, the lot’s commodities barn and a hay grinder — the apparent source point of the blaze — all were engulfed in flames.
Eventually, the barn and all its contents were destroyed along with an unspecified amount of hay. Other nearby buildings were spared. Thankfully, there were no injuries.
2i Feeders is a cattle operation specializing in custom feed, animal health and cattle management, with components including agronomy, commodities, transportation and feed options, according to the business website.
Fire crews from Allen-Admire, Miller and Reading responded along with Lyon County deputies. Final damage estimates are pending.
