Re-construction is complete for one Emporia street after a recent water main failure, and the process has resumed for another.
West 12th has opened up just west of Lincoln after it was shut down Saturday when a 16-inch water line failed early that morning, interrupting water service for several nearby homes and a host of businesses, including Emporia Place, Kenyon Square Apartments, Haag Pharmacy and KVOE.
In addition, a contractor is excavating on Prairie Street between 15th and Prairie Park Lane after a 20-inch line failed July 17. That work may not finish out until sometime next week because there was significant heaving of the road surface and nearby curb as well as major damage to the subgrade under the street surface. The work was put on pause Thursday when a saw blade apparently got pinched and got stuck while cutting across the street.
Emporia went the first nine days of July without any water main breaks. From July 10 to Wednesday, there were 17 water line failures in the city limits.
