Some Emporians headed to the polls Monday, the first day of advance voting ahead of the Aug. 7 primary.
As of 2 p.m. Monday, a total of 30 Lyon County residents had cast their ballot. Lyon County Clerk Tammy Vopat says overall voters early on have been happy with the new voting equipment and says there have been no hiccups to this point.
Vopat says now that they’ve gotten through the first day, they hope more people get out and vote. In addition, Vopat says 160 mail ballots have already been sent out. As for turnout this election season, Vopat is hopeful to see close to 50 percent.
Advance voting continues through noon Aug. 6 at the Lyon County Courthouse.
