Two of Emporia State University’s Wooster Lake ducks were killed this week.
University spokesperson Gwen Larson says the early indications are an animal attacked at least three of the ducks, possibly Monday night or early Tuesday. Two died, with one hurt and a fourth missing. Larson says they were a comforting presence to everybody on campus.

The ducks are non-flying birds. They were first introduced to campus in 2017 and were re-introduced after spring break following a stay at an unspecified winter home in the country.
The university hasn’t decided whether to replace the ducks that died. The remaining ducks have been taken to their winter sanctuary while administrators decide their next steps with the flock.
