Emporia Main Street held its annual meeting Tuesday at the Copper Top.
The meeting saw five awards handed out, including Business of the Year which went to Dirty Kanza Promotions. Operations Manager LeLan Dains.
The Advocate of the Year went to Hispanics of Today and Tomorrow spokesperson Sally Sanchez, who tells KVOE News why Main Street is so important to her.
Cory Haag was honored with the J Warren Brinkman Award for historic preservation and community development. Known for construction of several mixed-use lofts in downtown Emporia, Haag has also been involved in renovating the former Bank of America building at 527 Commercial.
Emporia Main Street Director Casey Woods says in addition to the awards, the organization discussed its goals for the upcoming year, which includes the ongoing renovations to its new headquarters at 727 Commercial Street.
Woods says the renovations of the new future home of Main Street is progressing with an estimated move-in date later this year. Last year, Emporia Main Street crossed the threshold of $100 million in downtown investments. As a result, Woods says they want to continue to encourage Emporians to shop locally.
The Volunteer of the Year award went to Laura Blossom. The Steve Hanschu Excellence in Design Award went to BLI Rentals.
