Bryce Harper showed the All-Star break can be a reset for many players as he managed an incredible comeback to win the MLB All-Star Home Run Derby Monday night.
Harper was down 18-9 to the Chicago Cubs’ Kyle Schwarber in the final round and would go deep nine times in ten swings to tie things up. With his father Ron as his designated pitcher, Harper would drive the second pitch of bonus time over the fence of centerfield to walk away as the champion in front of his home crowd in Nationals Park.
All together Harper hit 44 home runs for a total of 3.5 miles with his longest being 478 feet. Chicago Cub Javier Baez had the longest home run of the night with 479 feet.
Harper’s win may provide a boost for him when the regular season recommences as he has been hitting just .214 coming into the All-Star break. This was the second time in four years a hometown player won the Home Run Derby.
