There will be no change in leadership at the Emporia Public Library, despite Director Robin Newell’s attempt last week at a library board meeting to tender her resignation.
Library Board Chair Stacey Johnston tells KVOE News the board decided last week against accepting Newell’s resignation. Johnson says the board held two executive sessions following last Thursday’s meeting, including one with Newell and one without her.
It isn’t clear whether Newell’s announcement was a surprise to the board, nor what motivated Newell’s decision. However, Johnston says it was definitely unique and a decision they feel was right.
Johnston adds the board isn’t expecting the issue to come up again at their next board meeting, which is slated for Aug. 9. Newell has not commented on the matter.
