A portion of South Avenue in southeast Emporia will close this week due to a major infrastructure project.
The city is closing South just east of Carter on Wednesday as work begins to install a new 16-inch water main. The new pipe will serve Industrial Park III and nearby neighborhoods.
The overall improvement project involves new water mains along Kansas Avenue from Exchange Street to Penny Lane and Warren Way from South to Logan as well as a new water tower. The whole project could take until fall 2019 to complete, but the road should re-open to traffic by late July or early August.
