Based on National Weather Service radar estimates, folks who were under thunderstorms Sunday got some much-needed rainfall.
Much of Chase County received brief heavy rains from a slow-moving thunderstorm complex that also generated a severe thunderstorm warning. There were no actual severe weather reports. Rainfall totals are currently pending, but radar estimates show northeast Chase County picked up as much as 3-4 inches of rain.
Portions of Greenwood County also dealt with a severe thunderstorm warning, but again there were no severe weather reports from that storm activity. Radar estimates have as much a 1-3 inches of rain in north-central Greenwood County and another swath of 2-4 inches in southwest parts of the county from a separate complex.
While those areas and portions of Osage County saw rainfall, the rest of the KVOE listening area was largely dry. Extreme drought continues for northwest Lyon County as well as parts of Chase, Morris and Wabaunsee counties. The rest of the listening area is either abnormally dry, moderate drought or severe drought.
