Emporia Public Works crews are wrapping up a busy week that saw more than a half-dozen water main breaks in Emporia.
Public Works Director Frank Abart tells KVOE News there were no new breaks Thursday and crews were making final repairs to a break on a line along Graham Street north of Highway 50 Friday. Two neighboring businesses including Midas Touch Golden Tans at 2918 West Hwy 50, sustained damage as a result. Midas Touch manager Amy Ringler says her father discovered the break late Wednesday evening.
The carpet had to be ripped up from the floors of the salon and some of the tanning beds sustained water damage as a result. Ringler says they are still assessing an exact dollar figure on damages, though it is likely the dollar amount will be substantial. She says the water main break caused them also to close Thursday.
Since they were running at half capacity Friday, Ringler says they were offering customers a half-price sale on the equipment they do have available. It will likely be several days before the business is back at full capacity. A neighboring business, Peerless Tires for Less also sustained damage. They declined to comment to KVOE News.
