Our summertime heat will back off a bit early next week. In the meantime, the National Weather Service has extended a nearly week-long heat advisory another day.
Residents of Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties have been under a heat advisory since Tuesday. originally, the alert was supposed to end Friday evening. Now that ends at 8 pm Saturday.
The good news is the forecast has introduced slight chances of thunderstorms for Thursday, resuming Friday night and continuing through Monday night. The bad news: area residents Thursday could hit 100 degrees for the first time this season. Heat index readings could be anywhere from 103-108 across east central and northeast Kansas on Thursday.
