The deadline to apply for the Emporia Convention and Visitors Bureau’s annual support grants is just a little less than a month away.
CVB Director Susan Rathke was a recent guest on KVOE’s Talk of Emporia and explained exactly what the grants are used for.
Rathke emphasized the grants are specifically for events that generate overnight business such as sporting events or conventions. Rathke mentions the Glass Blown Open, Dirty Kanza 200 and the upcoming Junior World Disc Gold championships as prime examples of the CVB’s main goal.
Rathke adds with the increased tourism, not only does Emporia’s notoriety increase but so does the ability to expand tourism efforts thanks to the collection of transient guest taxes, or a tax imposed on guests of hotels or other lodging facilities.
The deadline to apply for a support grant is August 1. For more information on the application process or to discuss your plans for future events visit the CVB at 719 Commercial Street or call 620-342-1803.
