Although the fourth of July has come and gone, the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is not done celebrating.
Saturday the Preserve will be hosting a slew of activities to celebrate America’s independence. The day will actually be a combination of two events, the Fourth of July celebration and the Preserve’s monthly Ranching Saturday event.
Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve Spokesperson Heather Brown recently joined KVOE’s Newsmaker Two segment and explained what patrons can expect to see during Saturday’s event.
Along with the historic ranching demonstrations, a town hall reading of the Declaration of Independence will also take place, something Brown says was very common in the 1800s. Brown explains the demonstrations and portrayals at the event are as realistic to the time period as possible thanks to the abundance of research material at their disposal.
Other activities will include children’s games such as tug of war, an egg toss, sack races and more. Activities get underway Saturday at 10 am at the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve located at 2480B Kansas Highway 177 two miles north of Strong City.
