TOPEKA — A Greenwood County man will spend 30 years in prison for killing his infant son.
Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt says 23-year-old Benny William Clark of Reece was sentenced Thursday after a guilty plea in March. Clark pleaded guilty in March to one count of second-degree intentional murder and one count of child abuse after the death of Cooper Clark.
KVOE’s television partner WIBW in Topeka says Cooper Clark’s mother left the youngster in the care of Benny Clark. When she returned from work, the baby was gasping for air. Cooper Clark was taken to Wichita’s Wesley Medical Center but eventually died.
The Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office investigated help from the Wichita Police Department’s Exploited and Missing Child Unit. The Attorney General’s Office and Greenwood County Attorney Joe Lee prosecuted.
