Emporia State mens basketball Coach Craig Doty has announced the addition of 8 players to next seasons roster.
The highlights of the recruiting class are Kooper and Sawyer Glick who transfer from Barry, a team that was an elite 8 team last year.
Also joining Emporia State will be Justin Tucker a 6-7 post player from Orlando, Florida and transfer from Indian River College in Florida. Coach Doty says he helps make up a strong front court.
Coach Doty also added depth at the guard spot with the addition of Jumar’Ri Turner, a transfer from Rochester Community and Technical College and Dawson Gunter a transfer from Pratt.
Coach Doty also signed Marquis McCray a 6-5 forward out of Wichita and a transfer from Dodge City Community College.
Two High School players will be joining the team Brock Halbach a 6-7 from Burlington, Wisconsin and Saadique Perkins a 6-4 guard from Park Hill South in Riverside, Missouri.
They join 3 other signees, Aaron and Devante McGee and Julius Jackson. Ryan Ongala signed during the early signing period last fall. Coach Doty will also have 7 players returning from last years team: Brandon Hall, Malik Hluchoweckyj, Hassan Thomas, Grant Shell, Danny Hodge, Duncan Fort and Jack Dale.
Emporia State recruits
Kooper Glick is a 6-3 forward from Columbus, Ind. that will have one year of eligibility left. He is a transfer from NCAA Division II Barry and played on the Buccaneers Elite Eight team last season. He led the team with a .900 free throw percentage last year and was a perfect 13 of 13 from the line in the post season. He played in 61 games in two years with two starts, including the South Region Championship game. He played his freshman season for Coach Doty at Rock Valley College. He averaged 12.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game for the Eagles as they won the NJCAA Division III National Championship. He prepped at Columbus (Ind.) North HS and averaged 16.8 points per game as a senior.
Sawyer Glick is a 6-5 guard from Columbus, Ind. and will also have one year remaining for the Hornets. He is a graduate transfer from NCAA Division II Elite Eight team Barry and started 31 of 32 games for the Buccaneers last season. He averaged 13.8 points per game with three 30 point games in the regular season highlighted by a ten of 17 effort from behind the arc for 34 points in a win at Rollins. He ranked tenth in the nation last year with 103 made three-pointers and was third in the Sunshine State Conference with a .395 three-point percentage. He averaged 10.9 points on .421 shooting from behind the arc as a sophomore for Barry. He was the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year for NCAA Division II Spring Hill College in 2015-16. He averaged 15.8 points and 4.3 rebounds for the Badgers. He has made 237 three-pointers in his career while the Emporia State career record is 216 by Sean Robbins from 1991-95. He averaged 13.0 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game as a senior at Columbus (Ind.) North HS.
Dawson Gunter is a 5-10 guard from Wichita, Kan. that is transferring to Emporia State from Pratt CC. He averaged 10.2 points and 4.0 assists per game as a sophomore for the Beavers and hit 30 of 65 three-pointers for a .462 percentage behind the line. He was an All-City League performer for Wichita South HS and led the Titans to the Class 6A state tournament as a junior and senior.
Marquis McCray is a 6-5 forward from Wichita, Kan. that is transferring to Emporia State from Dodge City CC. He started 13 of 31 games for the Conquistadors last year and averaged 6.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. He averaged 10.1 points and 4.6 rebounds per game as a senior for Wichita Heights HS.
Justin Tucker is a 6-7 forward from Orlando, Fla. and is transferring to Emporia State from Indian River (Fla.) State College. He was a second-team All-Southern Conference selection as a sophomore after averaging 9.4 points and 5.9 rebounds for the Pioneers. He played in 27 games for NCAA Division I Wofford as a freshman and had season highs of 12 points and five rebounds against UVa.-Wise. He averaged a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds as a senior at Dr. Phillips HS in Orlando, Fla.
Jumah’Ri Turner is a 6-3 guard from Bloomington, Minn.and is transferring to Emporia State from Rochester (Minn.) Community and Technical College. He was an NJCAA Division III third-team All-American last year as he averaged 22.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game for the Yellowjackets. He scored 14.0 points and grabbed 3.1 rebounds per game as a freshman for RCTC. He was an all-conference performer and named offensive player of the year as a senior for John F. Kennedy HS in Bloomington, Minn.
High School signees:
Brock Halbach is a 6-7 forward from Burlington, Wis. He was an honorable mention All-Southern Lakes Conference performer for Burlington HS.
Ryan Ongala is a 6-8 forward from Aurora, Colo. and has confirmed his early signing from last fall with Emporia State. He averaged 10.0 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.4 blocked shots per game as a senior on his way to First-Team All-East Metro Athletic Conference honors for Rangeview (Colo.) HS.
Saadique Perkins is a 6-4 guard from Riverside, Mo. He was a First-Team All-Suburban Conference Red Division selection for Park Hill (Mo.) South HS.
