The American Legion Post 5 Juniors fell short in the Summer Slam semifinals 7-5 to Clay Center.
Post 5 trailed from the get-go as Clay Center opened the scoring with two runs in the first inning off a wild throw and line drive single. After another single run in the second, Avery Peek responded for Emporia in the top of the fourth scoring off a line drive single by Tanner Brooks. Clay Center led 7-1 going into the top of the seventh. Emporia looked to be on the verge of their third straight comeback in two days thanks to hits by Kadyn Williams and Chance Gilpin, bringing Emporia within two 5-7. A double play stopped the Emporia momentum and saw Clay Center advance to the tournament finals.
Coach Anthony Markowitz felt they needed to attack the game more.
Post 5 finished the tournament with a record of 3-2.
