Germany will not be advancing to the Round of Sixteen this year after a stunning 2-0 loss to South Korea Wednesday in the FIFA World Cup.
The 2014 World Cup Champions stumbled early dropping their first game of the tournament to Mexico 1-0. The Germans would gain some life in their second game defeating Sweden 2-1.
Wednesday Germany couldn’t seem to get the offence going despite great looks at the goal. The score would remain even at 0-0 through the first half of play. South Korea would strike in stoppage time scoring two sudden goals to clinch their first win of the 2018 World Cup. Adding to the disappointment, the Germans were an 86 percent favorite to win going into Wednesday’s match.
Germany took to the pitch Wednesday without star players Jerome Boateng who was serving a red card suspension from Germany’s game against Sweden, and Sebastian Rudy who suffered a broken nose.
This was the earliest exit for a German squad since the World Cup in 1938.
