Extreme heat is now on top of us, which means you should take extreme caution to be safe the next few days.
Most of the KVOE listening area is in a heat advisory as we speak, but Osage and Wabaunsee counties are actually now in a heat warning through Saturday evening. TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers says with these type of temperatures and heat index readings, the official nature of the alert doesn’t really matter.
Officially, the heat advisory for Lyon, Coffey and Morris counties and the heat warning for Osage and Wabaunsee counties last until 7 pm Saturday. Chase and Greenwood counties are in a heat advisory through 9 pm Friday.
With this being our second prolonged period of stifling heat this month, the steps to take should be routine by now: drink lots of water or sports drinks, wear light, loose-fitting clothing, take as many breaks as you need in air conditioning or shade, make sure children and pets aren’t left in hot vehicles and check on elderly neighbors who may not have full access to air conditioning.
