A sudden downpour wouldn’t stop Post 5 AAA from dominating the Topeka Senators 31-4 in seven innings Tuesday.
Topeka struck first scoring a single run in the first inning off a fielder’s choice. Post 5 responded immediately in the bottom of the inning with runs by Beau Baumgardner and Sawyer Slayden. In the second Emporia dominated the plate scoring seven runs to lead 9-1. Emporia continued the dominance scoring in every inning including ten runs in the bottom of the sixth to run away with the win. The Senators would go through six pitchers in the losing effort including three in the first two innings. Sawyer Slayden led Emporia with three hits in four at bats and seven RBI.
Coach Anthony Markowitz says the message in the dugout was to not lose focus regardless of the score.
The Post 5 Seniors now head to Chase County for a doubleheader Wednesday.
