As if it wasn’t hot enough already, it appears the heat will linger for the rest of the week.
Heat advisories have been extended for Lyon, Coffey and Morris counties through 7 p.m. Saturday while Osage and Wabaunsee counties are now listed in an excessive heat warning until 7 p.m. Saturday. A separate heat advisory also remains through 8 p.m. Thursday for Chase and Greenwood counties. It is recommended if you must spend time outdoors, to take frequent breaks and stay hydrated. Children and pets should also never be left in vehicles.
8 a.m. Wednesday
Summertime is here on the calendar. And it’s here on the thermometer as well.
Air temperatures will be in the mid-90s for much of the next few days. Thursday is the exception, when air temperatures will reach 100 degrees. As a result, heat advisories begin at 1 pm Wednesday areawide.
TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers says this is the time to find a way to beat the heat.
Once again, you should be prepared for the incoming heat by properly hydrating with water or sports drinks — instead of alcohol or caffeine — and by drinking more than you normally would. In addition, you’re encouraged to wear light, loose-fitting clothes.
The heat advisory goes until 8 pm Thursday for Chase and Greenwood counties. For Lyon and all other surrounding counties, the advisory lasts until 10 pm Friday.
