A big second inning would be the downfall of the Kansas City Royals as Houston took the series win 11-3 Sunday.
With the score even at zero, the Astros led off the bottom of the second with a double by Yuri Gurriel. Later as the tenth batter of the inning, Gurriel drove a fastball over the left field wall for a grand slam to cap off an eight-run inning.
Lucas Duda was the only Royal to score off Houston starter Gerrit Cole with a solo home run in the fourth. The win was Houston’s Major League-leading 52nd on the season.
Jason Hammel took the loss for the Royals giving up nine runs with five walks in four innings.
The Royals will return home for a makeup game with the Angels Monday. First pitch is set for 3:15pm coverage on KVOE 1400am/96.9fm will begin at 2:30.
